Solving Hybrid Meeting Challenges

Explore the Hybrid Conferencing Experience at AV University

Hybrid video conferencing workspaces have been a consistent topic in AV over the past year, and even well-seasoned professionals are discovering new challenges in setting up these spaces for success.

The culprit is easy, instead of having most people in the room with the occasional person joining remotely, virtually every meeting is now sure to have a healthy mix of remote vs. in-person attendees. This shift has a huge impact on how to design a room for optimal video conferencing that brings everyone to the same table.

Legrand | AV has put together a trove of resources to help with this very topic, including trends books, diagrams, blogs, comparison charts, 3D online boardroom tours, and much more. But let’s say you want to take a guided walkthrough of the decision-making process, from needs analysis to finding efficiencies in repeatable designs. Sorry, you’re out of luck.

Just kidding!

Of COURSE we have a guided walkthrough.

AV University, the online training platform for Legrand | AV, has a new course rolling out called “Solving Hybrid Meeting Challenges.” Instructor Jay Dishong is a technology consultant with executive experience at Sony and Legrand | AV and decades of designing solutions that improve customers’ communications and productivity.

Jay Dishong, trainer for the video series.

“It’s not a technically heavy course, but I do address topics that I’ve seen out in the field that I believe are the most important to consider,” Dishong said.

The course is divided into five video training modules for a total of about an hour, along with extra resources and takeaways for each course. Overall topics include:

  • First Steps in Navigating Hybrid Spaces
  • Overcoming Audio Challenges
  • Putting the Video in Video Conference
  • Designing Repeatable and Adaptable Spaces
  • Building Reliable Systems that Work

The courses include visual demonstrations on the importance of solving for audio, mic distance, aspect ratios, power management and more.

Although the class doesn’t get overly technical, even seasoned video conferencing pros will find value in looking at the unique challenges we’re facing in hybrid environments.

“Going through the process of scripting, recording, and researching, even I felt challenged to go back and find out what people are looking at, and what kind of issues have come up,” Dishong said. “It was really an eye-opening process to go through because there’s so much changing.”

The full course can provide certification credits for 1 CTS / 1 CTS-D / 1 CTS-I. Like everything available on AV University, this course is free and available anytime.
